Magical Unicorn Birthday Card

 

I don’t know about you but at this time of year I have to make lots of birthday cards! The ‘Magical Unicorn’ from Visible Image is brilliant for those mystical but marvellous birthday makes for friends and family alike. For my DT make this week I’ve teamed this stamp with the ‘Present Times’ and ‘Grunge Tones’ stamp sets as well as the ‘Atmospheric Stencil’.

Background

• Spray ‘Kitsch Flamingo’, ‘Saltwater Taffy’, ‘Squeezed Lemonade’, ‘Twisted Citron’, ‘Tumbled Glass’ and ‘Shaded Lilac’ distress spray stain onto a white piece of card. Allow it to trickle down the card and leave to dry naturally.

• Place the ‘Atmospheric’ stencil over the top of the background in a couple of random places and smooth distress opaque grit paste through it (I used the circles part).

• Stamp the elements from the ‘Grunge Tones’ and numbers from the ‘Present Times’ stamp sets onto the background using ‘Charming Pink’, ‘Bali Blue’, ‘Verdant’ and ‘Very Peri’ (1st and 2nd generation).

• Spritz with white ink and distress spritz sprays in ‘Hickory Smoke’.
• Blend around the edges of the card with the same colours as the background in distress inks.

Focal Image & Sentiment

• Stamp the unicorn from the ‘Magical Unicorn’ stamp set onto another piece of white card using Versafine Clair ‘Nocturne’ black ink. Heat emboss with Wow superfine clear embossing powder and fussy cut out. Colour in with a grey colouring pencil and clear gel pen.

• Stamp the sentiment from the same stamp set onto black card using Versamark and heat emboss with Wow superfine opaque bright white embossing powder. Fussy cut out and glue onto some white hammered card.

Completion

• Mount the background onto some black card and a white card blank. Add the unicorn and sentiment using 3D foam mounts plus a few small sparkly gems for interest.

I had great fun making this magical card. I can’t wait to send out to a dear friend this Spring.

Top Tip: Use a water sprayer to help blend spray inks if needed.
