Bee Happy
If you’ve been keeping an eye on my makes over the last few years you’ll know I love a bright card. I’ve returned once again to some ink blending for this birthday card. First of all, I took a piece of white card and blended ‘Dried Marigold’, ‘Carved Pumpkin’, ‘Worn Lipstick’, ‘Picked Raspberry’ and ‘Peacock Feathers’ over it. Once dried, a few drops of water were spritzed over the top.
The ‘Inky Daisy’ stencil was placed over the top of the background and some of the colour from the surface of the card was bleached away using a slightly damp tissue. This was repeated a number of times over the card background. I love the subtle effect this gives. It’s not a technique I use often, perhaps I should?
Next up, I stamped the honeycomb stamp from the ‘Bee Happy’ stamp set around the edge of the card using Versamark and heat embossed with Wow superfine opaque bright white embossing powder.
The bees then flew in…. These were stamped onto the background using Versafine Clair ‘Nocturne’ black ink before being heat embossed with Wow superfine clear gloss embossing powder. Other elements of the stamp set were stamped around these main images using the same distress ink colours as before. I love the different depths you can get just using distress inks in different ways.
I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to leave the bees as they were or to make them more 3 dimensional. I chose the latter - so stamped an additional set of bees onto another piece of white card in the same way before colouring in with colouring pencils and the Visible Image metallic chameleon watercolours. These were fussy cut out and edged with black permanent marker.
The sentiment from ‘Birthday Wishes’ was then stamped onto the card using the same method before outlining with a white gel pen to help it stand out.
Finally, the background was glued onto black card and a white card blank. The
bees were added on top of the already stamped bees on the background using acrylic glue (leaving the wings to pop out from the card) before some Posca white paint, wink of stella accents and some large water droplets were added. I really enjoyed making this card. It’s perfect to send to one of my friends celebrating a birthday very soon. Happy crafting everyone!
